BuskerFest – Street Theatre en masse!

I love the surprise of coming across a street performer as you’re going about your daily business. (One of my absolute favourites has to be a guy I stumbled upon one day playing the Star Wars theme on the bag pipes at Queen and University! It was brilliant and totally unexpected! It still brings a smile to my face just thinking about it!) And every year, for one weekend, we are treated to an amazing en masse display of some of the best street theatre in what is touted as the largest street performer festival in North America: Toronto’s International BuskerFest.

In the stretch of Yonge Street from Queen  to College, be prepared to experience a dizzying array of street performances, food kiosks, artisans booths, kids play zone, and more! You’ll see everything from acrobatic acts, contortionists, magicians, break dancers, jugglers, fire-breathers, and musical acts; to stilt walkers, human statues, face painters, balloon twisters and chalk artists. There truly is something for everyone – including a licensed lounge!

If you didn’t know, BuskerFest is brought to us by Epilepsy Toronto and is their biggest fundraiser of the year. So if you go, you’ll see donation opportunities as you enter the festival: All festival goers are asked to please donate to this worthy cause. And with regards to the performers, it’s totally up to you how much you would like to give in appreciation of each performance you see – the beauty of street theatre! So you’ll want to make sure you have cash on hand to be able to show your appreciation as you see fit!
