I love watching movies outside. I don’t know if it’s the nostalgia from going to the drive-in when I was a kid or just the unique experience of being able to enjoy both the outdoors and a movie at the same time, but it is definitely one of my favourite summer things to do! And the great thing is there is now a plethora of outdoor theatre options in Toronto.
This past weekend we tried out the Courtyard Movies at St. Peter’s at Bloor and Bathurst. It’s a great set up there for an outdoor theatre. There’s lots of seating provided, but if you prefer to watch from a blanket there’s also an inviting length of grass to the side of the seating on which you can stretch out (BYOB though – bring your own blanket, ie!). They also offer a selection of typical movie-theatre drinks and snacks (popcorn, chocolate bars, cookies, freezies, pizza slices, soft drinks, hot chocolate) – but the best part is each drink/snack is only $1!
In terms of movies, over the course of the summer they offer a great assortment of both classic films as well as more recent films before they’re released on DVD (we saw the Lego Movie). And I loved the old nostalgic snackbar ads and early Disney cartoon they played before the movie. Definitely a fun, unexpected treat!
All in all, a great way to spend a laid-back summer evening with friends!
