Sail-In Cinema – a waterfront treat!

I love unique experiences, and Sail-In Cinema is one of those fun, unique, summertime experiences. Held at Sugar Beach, it reminds me of going to the drive-in movie as a kid…but instead of being in a car, you’re either stretched out on a blanket on the beach, sitting in a cozy camp chair, or relaxing on the deck of your boat in the harbour.

The event is free and is typically held over three nights of one weekend each summer, with a different movie playing each night. The movies are usually classics from years past such as Jurassic Park, Ghostbusters, The Goonies, E.T., Jaws, The Princess Bride (adding again to the fun nostalgia for many).

And to keep you entertained while you settle in and wait for it to get dark enough for the movie to begin, you’re also treated to a variety of entertainment sources: from a live band playing, to chalk art, to food trucks and vendor booths, as well as just soaking in the ambience of Sugar Beach and the waterfront and sharing the experience with your fellow movie-goers.

One year I’d love to experience the event from boat-side in the harbour! But otherwise I’m quite happy to enjoy the ambience beach-side. It’s a great way to spend a summer evening!

A couple of notes for you: even though the event is free, you need to sign up for tickets for it on their site. And if you can, go early to ensure you can find a good spot to sit and so that you can partake in the food and fun leading up to the movie.
